When I saw my wife, Robin, struggling to stir stiff sourdough starter with an ordinary spoon, I made her a proper stirrer instead. Most spoons don't reach the bottom of a starter jar. Most whisks are too wide to fit through the opening. So I built one that does both.

This was the first sourdough stirrer of its kind, and it's still the one I make with the most care. The wire fits inside a standard starter jar and cuts through thick, stiff starter in seconds. No scraping the sides. No flour lumps left at the bottom. Just a clean, even mix every time you feed.

What makes it different

The steel is the part most people don't talk about. The stainless steel wire comes from Italy: solid, thick-gauge material that holds its shape under daily use. The copies you'll find elsewhere use thin, flimsy wire that bends and warps. This one won't.

The handle is turned from natural beechwood and sits comfortably in your hand.
